Engineering students aren't paying the same as someone in Management Sciences. Science courses have different fees from Arts. That's just how they've structured it. They don't really publish a detailed breakdown for every single course online, which is annoying, but that's the reality.
Now, if you're going into Medicine – MBBS specifically – you're paying around ₦150,000 for your first year. Veterinary Medicine? About ₦159,000. These professional courses naturally cost more.
What About Returning Students?
Here's where it gets a bit easier on your pocket. From your second year onwards, you're paying less. Returning undergraduate students are looking at ₦84,900 to ₦145,200 depending on faculty.
Medical students who are returning pay about ₦130,000 for MBBS and around ₦115,200 for Vet Medicine. So yeah, that first year hits hardest, then it gets somewhat manageable.
Foreign Students Pay More
If you're coming from outside Nigeria, the fees are different. Fresh foreign students are paying ₦230,000, and returning foreign students pay ₦183,000. Almost double what Nigerian students pay. Just something to keep in mind if that applies to you.

How much is ATBU Hostel Accommodation Costs
Now let's talk about where you'll actually sleep. Hostel fees at ATBU vary based on campus and the type of room you're getting:

- Gubi Campus Self-Contained: ₦30,090
- Gubi Self-Contained with detached toilet: ₦25,090
- Clinical Students Hostel at ATBUTH: ₦75,090
- Postgraduate Hostel at Yelwa Campus: ₦75,090
The Yelwa campus option is the most affordable. But if you're a clinical student or doing postgraduate studies, you're paying significantly more for accommodation.
One thing though – these hostel fees are the same whether you're from Bauchi State or Sokoto State. Your course of study doesn't affect it either. Everyone pays the same based on which hostel they're in.
How to Actually Get a Hostel Room
The hostel application is all online now. But here's the catch – you can't even apply until you've completed your screening and paid your school fees. The process goes like this:
First, sort out all your registration and payments. Then log into the ATBU student portal, find the hostel accommodation section on your dashboard, fill in the form, and make the payment online. Print out your receipt because you'll need it to collect your room key from the Dean of Students office.
The important thing to know is that hostel allocation is competitive. It's basically first-come, first-served. Once the portal opens for hostel applications, you need to jump on it. The good rooms go fast. Really fast.

There are departmental levies that come up. Course materials. Textbooks can cost serious money depending on your course. Lab coats if you're in sciences. Drawing materials if you're in Engineering. Feeding for the whole semester. Transport.
Realistically, you should have at least ₦250,000 to ₦300,000 ready for your first year if you want to be comfortable. Maybe more if you're in a course with expensive materials.

Here's something else – these fees aren't set in stone forever. University management can adjust them based on whatever's happening. So the figures I'm giving you now for 2025/2026 might be slightly different by the time you're actually paying.

ATBU is actually one of the more affordable federal universities when you compare fees across the board. The costs are reasonable, especially for non-medical courses. The hostel fees are decent too – ₦15,000 for Yelwa campus is genuinely cheap compared to what some private or even other federal universities charge. For instance, university of uyo and UNIBEN hostels fee are almost twice this amount.
