Welcome to FreshNote, right now we have the new approved fees of ABSU for both indigenes and non-indigenes. if you're reading this here, I believe you're checking out for the current school fees of university of Abia state.
so a friend of mine was helping his younger cousin figure out ABSU fees the other day and honestly, the whole process was a bit confusing at first. But I managed to get the actual breakdown from someone who just paid, so let me share what I found out. I'm sharing this from university of Uyo, you can compare absu fees with Uniuyo
What You'll Actually Pay at ABSU
Alright, so here's the real deal. I got hold of an actual invoice from a 100-level Political Science student for the 2025/2026 session, and the total came to ₦209,000. Yeah, I know that sounds like a lot, but let me break it down so you can see where your money is actually going.

The tuition fee itself is ₦104,000. That's just for your academics - lectures, exams, all that good stuff. Now, this can vary small depending on what you're studying, but for most regular courses in Arts and Social Sciences, it's around that range.
Then there's the hostel fee at ₦50,000. But here's the thing - if you're staying off-campus with friends or family, you don't have to pay this one at all. It's only for people who want to stay in the school hostel. So that's something to keep in mind when you're budgeting.
Now, the other two fees - accreditation and development - those ones everybody must pay. The accreditation fee is ₦25,000, which apparently goes toward keeping the school's programs certified by NUC and all those regulatory bodies. And the development fee is ₦30,000 for infrastructure and campus facilities.
The Real Cost for Freshers
So yeah, ₦209,000 sounds like the total, but wait - there's something else. If you're a fresher, you'll also pay acceptance fee separately when you first get admission. That one is usually around ₦40,000 to ₦50,000. So realistically, you're looking at somewhere between ₦240,000 to ₦260,000 for your first year when you add everything together.
Does It Change Based on Your Course?
This is important - the figures I'm giving you are for a regular course like Political Science. If you're going into professional programs like Medicine, Law, Nursing, or Engineering, just know that your fees will definitely be higher. I don't have exact figures for those ones, but from what I've heard, they can go significantly above this.
Some Quick Tips
Look, I've seen people get scammed during school fees payment, so let me just say this - always pay directly through the official ABSU portal. Don't send money to anybody claiming they can "help" you pay or that they have a "faster method." Just go to portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng yourself and follow the process.
Also, print out and keep every receipt and invoice you get. You'll need them for clearance and registration, and trust me, you don't want to be running around trying to reprint stuff when everyone is queuing up.
Bottom Line
So to answer the main question - ABSU school fees for a typical 100-level student is around ₦209,000 per session, but factor in acceptance fee for your first year. It's not the cheapest, but honestly, compared to what I've seen other state universities charging these days, it's actually reasonable.
Just make sure you budget properly and pay attention to your specific department's requirements, because some courses might have extra charges I'm not aware of. Best thing is to confirm on the portal once you get your admission.
