Does UNIZIK Offer JUPEB? Courses, Fees and Registration

Yes. Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka runs a JUPEB programme. You spend one academic session on it, sit the final examinations, and if you pass you use the certificate to apply for Direct Entry instead of starting again through UTME. Prepare better with the JUPEB past questions and answers app.

Here is what the programme involves, who it is for, how the registration runs, and where the money side actually sits.

What the UNIZIK JUPEB programme is

JUPEB stands for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. It is a one-session programme run by a group of Nigerian universities. You are taught at the Awka campus, you sit the board's examinations at the end, and you come out with a JUPEB certificate rather than a degree.

That certificate is the whole point of the year. It is what qualifies you for Direct Entry admission into UNIZIK and into other JUPEB-affiliated universities in Nigeria and abroad.

Two things it is not. It is not a replacement for your O'Level results, and it is not an automatic admission letter. You still go through the Direct Entry process afterwards, and you still have to be offered a place.

Who can apply

You need five O'Level credits, English Language included, in not more than two sittings. The other four subjects have to be relevant to the course you are aiming at, so a future medical student and a future mass communication student will not present the same set.

Come with your results, not a promise of results. The programme does not take awaiting results, so if your WAEC or NECO result is still pending, you are looking at the next session rather than this one.

The subjects you will actually study

JUPEB runs on subject combinations. You take three teaching subjects that match the course you want, plus General Studies, which everyone takes.

The combination matters more than most people realise. Economics, Government and Literature opens a range of social science and arts courses. Biology, Chemistry and Physics points you at the sciences. Pick the wrong three and you can pass beautifully and still not qualify for the course you had in mind.

Past questions help more than re-reading notes here. The JUPEB app carries past questions you can work through on your phone between lectures.

What the session looks like

You attend lectures at the Awka campus in the subjects of your combination, on a timetable that runs through the week. Assessment is not one exam at the end. There is continuous assessment as the session goes on, then the final JUPEB examinations.

Treat it as a full-time course, not a long holiday before university. The students who struggle are often the ones who only started reading in the last two months.

How the registration works

The sale of the form opens ahead of each session, and UNIZIK announces it on its portal. When it opens, the flow looks like this:

  1. Buy the form through the university's admission portal and pay the application fee.
  2. Fill in your personal details, your O'Level results and the subject combination you want.
  3. Upload your credentials — your result or results, and a recent passport photograph.
  4. Submit the form and print the slip.
  5. Watch the portal for the screening and admission list.

Do the uploads carefully. A blurred result sheet or a photograph that does not clearly match you is the kind of small thing that holds an application up.

What you pay for

There are two separate payments. First, the application fee when you buy the form. Second, the school fees for the session if you are admitted. The university sets the amounts for each session and publishes them with the advert, so the figures change from one session to the next.

Pay through the portal, into the account the portal gives you. Anybody who asks you to send money to a personal account for a UNIZIK JUPEB form is not part of the process.

Courses, and what the certificate gets you

The certificate is accepted for Direct Entry into UNIZIK and other JUPEB-affiliated universities. Direct Entry admission is handled through JAMB, so you register for Direct Entry in the year you finish the programme, and you also have to satisfy the department's own requirements for the course you are applying to.

JUPEB results are graded, and departments accept different grades for different courses. A strong result leaves you room to move. A weak one narrows your options quickly, even with the certificate in hand.

Mistakes that cost people a session

  • Choosing a subject combination that does not match the course you want.
  • Applying with awaiting results.
  • Paying money to an individual instead of through the portal.
  • Leaving the application until the last days of the sale.
  • Assuming the certificate is the admission. It makes you eligible; you still compete for the Direct Entry slot.

Questions students still ask

Do I still need JAMB after JUPEB?

Yes, but not UTME. You register for JAMB Direct Entry and put UNIZIK down as your choice. The JUPEB certificate is what makes you eligible for that route in the first place.

Can I use the certificate at another university?

Yes. It works at JUPEB-affiliated universities in Nigeria and abroad, provided you meet the receiving university's requirements for the course you want. Sitting the programme in Awka does not tie you to Awka.

The short version: UNIZIK does run JUPEB, it lasts one session, it takes five O'Level credits with English Language, and it ends in a certificate that opens Direct Entry. Get your results ready, choose your three subjects against the course you actually want, and pay only through the portal.
