JUPEB Accounting Subject Combination Explained

JUPEB Accounting Subject Combination: Your Three Papers Explained

By FreshNote

Registering for Accounting? Get your subjects right first. This guide gives you the JUPEB Accounting subject combination, the points to aim for, and the schools to look at. It uses estimated figures from FreshNote's planner, kept short and practical.

What is the JUPEB Accounting subject combination?

Three subjects: Economics, Accounting and Mathematics. The planner lists no alternatives, so all three must be on your registration. Other courses use different sets, and every JUPEB course and its subjects lets you compare them.

How many points should I aim for?

Grades convert to points: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, F=0. Three subjects give a maximum of 15. For Accounting the estimated minimum runs from 11 to 15 points, depending on the school. Eleven points could be A, A, E or A, B, D or A, C, C. Fifteen is three A's. These are estimates, not official cut-offs.

Practise a little every day. If you study on your phone, the JUPEB Study app on your phone makes short sessions easy.

What does my total open up?

Count the schools whose estimated minimum is at or below your total. Out of the 84 schools offering Accounting, 15 points covers 84 of 84. A total of 14 covers 84, 13 covers 82 and 12 covers 72. At 11 points, 16 schools are within range, and below 11 none are. Say you score A in Economics, B in Accounting and B in Mathematics: that is 13 points, which is within the estimated minimum at 82 schools but not at UNILAG or OAU.

Can I swap Mathematics for another subject?

Not for Accounting in the planner data. Economics, Accounting and Mathematics are all listed with no substitutes. Business Administration and Marketing do accept Government in place of Mathematics, which is why a student who struggles with numbers sometimes looks at those courses instead. Give each of your three papers equal weight in your timetable, because a weak grade in one drags the total down.

Which schools are hardest, and which are easier?

All 84 of 84 affiliated universities in the planner offer Accounting: 16 federal, 17 state and 51 private. 12 are marked high difficulty.

  • Top of the scale: UNILAG, OAU are estimated at 14-15 points, with DE slots of about 2% to 3%.
  • Next group: UNN, UNIBEN, UNIPORT, UNICAL, UNIUYO, UNILORIN and others sit around 13-14 points.
  • Lowest estimates: FUNAI, UNIOSUN, OOU, AAUA, DELSU, NDU are estimated at 11-12 points.

Private schools make up most of the list, and many of them are estimated at 12-14 points. A lower figure is a planning guide. It never guarantees a place.

How do I practise for my target school?

Practise for the school and course, not in general. Say UNN is on your list. Start with UNN Accounting JUPEB past questions and UNN Accounting JUPEB mock exam past questions, then add UNN Accounting entrance exam past questions for the entrance stage. Use the same pattern for any other school: school name, course, type of practice. If UNILAG is your target instead, look for UNILAG Accounting JUPEB past questions, UNILAG Accounting JUPEB mock exam past questions and UNILAG Accounting entrance exam past questions.

How should I split my revision week?

Keep it simple. Give each subject at least two sessions a week and rotate the order so no paper is always studied last. Finish each session by trying a few questions from memory. Review your weakest subject on the weekend, then check the results against the grade you want. Small, steady habits beat one long cram before the exam.

What if Accounting is not the right fit?

Banking and Finance uses the same three subjects (about 7-14 points). Business Administration (6-13) and Marketing (6-12) accept Government in place of Mathematics, so check their combinations before you rely on one registration. Economics shares two slots (7-14).

Fond of numbers but not of bookkeeping? Look at the Computer Science subject mix, which leans on Mathematics and Physics. Prefer writing and debate? See what Law asks for instead.

Is JUPEB my only route?

No. If you want to compare, read the A-Level revision notes or visit FreshNote's IJMB page.

Pick the subjects first, then the school.

All points, DE slots and difficulty ratings are estimates from FreshNote's planner. Confirm requirements with the university and your JUPEB centre before you register.
