Why knowing your department early matters
If you're joining University of Uyo (UNIUYO), one thing you need to know early is that the school doesn't have everything in one place. The university runs four different campuses, and your faculty determines where you'll be spending most of your time.
Getting this right from the start helps you plan your accommodation and avoid the stress of being far from your classes.
The Four Campuses
UNIUYO splits its faculties across these locations:
- Main Campus at Nwaniba Road (also called Permanent Site)
- Town Campus at Ikpa Road in Uyo city
- Annex Campus (situated close to perm site
- Ime Umanah Campus at Ediene-Abak, Abak L.G.A (specifically for JUPEBITES)
Let's break down what you'll find at each one.
Courses and departments in Main Campus (Nwaniba Road)
This is the biggest campus and it's where most of the science-related courses happen. If you're studying anything in these faculties, this is your base:
Engineering students – all engineering departments are here. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Petroleum, Food and Agricultural Engineering.
Physical Sciences – Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics, and Statistics.
Biological Sciences – if you're doing Biochemistry, Microbiology, Botany, or Animal & Environmental Biology, you're here.

Departments and courses in Annex Campus
This campus handles business and communication courses.
Management Sciences – if you're studying Accounting, Banking & Finance, Business Management, Marketing, or Insurance, this is where you'll be.
Communication & Media Studies – Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Broadcasting.
GST The General Studies Unit is also here. That's where some of those general courses every student has to take are taught.
Ime Umanah Campus (Ediene-Abak)
This one is specifically for foundation and pre-degree programs. If you're doing JUPEB or any pre-degree program, you'll start here at the School of Basic Studies.
Keep this in mind
When you're looking for accommodation, try to stay somewhere close to your campus. It makes life easier. You don't want to be trekking long distances or spending transport money every day just to get to class.
Also, when screening time comes, you'll know exactly where to go. Save this information somewhere you can easily find it later.
That's basically it. Figure out which campus your department is on, and plan from there. If this helps, share it.
