One of the biggest misconceptions among JUPEB and IJMB candidates is that once they score high enough, admission is guaranteed. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
Recently, reports emerged that some candidates who scored the maximum 16 points may still miss admission because they failed to complete an important step in the Direct Entry admission process.
If you are planning to gain admission through JUPEB or IJMB, this is something you should pay close attention to.
Your Admission Still Comes Through JAMB
Many candidates believe that because they are not writing the UTME, they no longer have anything to do with JAMB. That is incorrect.
Although JUPEB and IJMB are A-Level programmes that qualify you for Direct Entry admission, your university admission is still processed and offered through the JAMB Direct Entry portal. This means that JAMB remains part of the admission process, even if you are not writing the UTME examination.
Two Different Verification Processes
Every JUPEB or IJMB candidate should understand that there are two separate verification processes.
1. JUPEB/IJMB Biometric Verification
This verification is carried out by your school or study centre. Its purpose is to confirm your identity and make you eligible to sit for the final JUPEB or IJMB examination.
Completing this verification alone does not qualify you for university admission.
2. JAMB A-Level (Direct Entry) Verification
This is a separate verification conducted by JAMB. It is an important requirement for processing your Direct Entry admission.
Candidates should ensure they complete this verification at the appropriate JAMB office as required by JAMB.
Don't Assume Every JAMB Office Offers the Same Service
Some affected candidates reportedly believed they could complete their Direct Entry verification at nearby JAMB CBT centres or registration points. However, such centres may not handle every JAMB service.
Before visiting any office, confirm the correct location and procedure through official JAMB channels or your study centre to avoid unnecessary delays or complications.
A High Score Alone Is Not Enough
Scoring 16 points is an excellent achievement, especially for competitive courses such as Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Engineering. However, admission depends on more than your academic performance.
Meeting all administrative and verification requirements is just as important as passing the examination.
