JUPEB 2025/2026 Just Started and I'm Getting DMs About It Every Day
If jamb have not given you admission, here is an opportunity to gain admission without JAMB. JUPEB admission for 2025/2026 kicked off this July and my phone won't stop buzzing. Everyone's asking me the same questions since I went through this whole thing at UNIUYO.
Look, I get it - JAMB is stressful as hell and you're probably tired of that whole circus. JUPEB? It's different. Not easier, just... different. Let me break it down for you because honestly, I wish someone had done this for me back then.
What Even IS JUPEB Though?
Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board - yeah, it's a mouthful. Basically it's this one-year A-Level thing that gets you straight into 200 Level without touching JAMB.
And before you ask - yes, it actually works. I'm sitting here as proof, aren't I?
You need like 13-16 points (out of 16) to get into the good stuff - Law, Medicine, Engineering. Which sounds scary but... we'll get to that.
It's run from UNILAG but over 70 universities accept it. Federal, state, private - doesn't matter.
How Do You Even Register for This Thing?
Two ways, and honestly both have their pros and cons:
Online - Go to your chosen uni's website (for UNIUYO it's www.uniuyo.edu.ng). You can do this from literally anywhere with internet. I did mine from some random cyber café that smelled like cigarettes and regret.
Physical - Just show up at the school's JUPEB office. More expensive if you're traveling but sometimes easier if you hate dealing with slow internet and confusing websites.
Registration fees vary but UNIUYO was around ₦15,500 last session. Not too bad.
What You Need to Get In
This is where it gets real:
- 5 O'Level credits - WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, whatever. Has to be relevant to what you want to study though
- Your NIN - please tell me you have this by now
- Mock screening test - Some schools do this, some don't. UNIUYO made us do it and you need 50%. It's not that hard but don't sleep on it
If You're Traveling - LISTEN UP
I cannot stress this enough - bring EVERYTHING the first time. I watched people go back home three times because they forgot something. Don't be that person.
Documents YOU need to bring:
- Your O'Level result (3 photocopies + original) - yeah, THREE copies, not two
- NIN copy (2 photocopies)
- Certificate of origin (2 photocopies) - this one's honestly annoying but they want it
- Birth certificate or age declaration (2 photocopies)
- Medical report - blood group, genotype, fitness report, all that stuff (2 photocopies)
- Letter of recommendation addressed to the Director of the school (1 original + 1 photocopy)
- White background passport photos (2 copies)
Trust me on this list. I've been there.
Now here's what nobody tells you - once you get admitted and do your clearance, the school's gonna give you a bunch of documents. And listen carefully... DO NOT LOSE THESE. They'll charge you extra fees to reprint anything you misplace, and trust me, those fees add up quick.
School-issued documents you'll get:
- Acceptance fee payment receipt
- Authority to pay
- School fee receipt (first and second semester)
- Departmental dues receipt (first and second semester)
- Admission letter
- E-course registration form
- Students online declaration form
- Students online information form
Get a folder. A good one. Keep all this stuff together because you'll need them at different times and losing any of them is just... expensive headaches you don't need.
The Money Talk (Because We All Want to Know)
Using UNIUYO as example since that's what I know:
- Tuition: ₦100,000
- JUPEB exam fee: ₦65,000
- GST stuff: ₦20,000
- Tutorials: ₦10,000
- Hostel (if you're female): ₦40,000
- Random other fees: varies but budget extra
Total? You're looking at ₦280,000-₦300,000. Maybe more, maybe less depending on the school.
Is it expensive? Yeah. Is it worth it if you get into Law or Medicine without JAMB stress? You tell me.
What You'll Actually Study
Here's something nobody explains properly - you pick 3 subjects related to your course. But each subject is split into 4 parts (001, 002, 003, 004) taught by different lecturers.
Science people typically do:
- Chemistry (all 4 parts)
- Physics (all 4 parts)
- Math (all 4 parts)
- Biology (all 4 parts)
Art people (like me, going for Law):
- Government (001-004)
- CRS - Christian Religious Studies (001-004)
- Literature (001-004)
Some might do Economics or Accounting instead of Literature.

⚠️ Important JUPEB Reality Check: You Still Need JAMB – But Not the Way You Think
Here’s something nobody told me until I was deep into the program:
Even though JUPEB lets you skip the JAMB exam, you’ll still have to register with JAMB through their Direct Entry (DE) portal when the time comes.
And yes, it shocked me too. I remember thinking:
"What concern JUPEB and JAMB again? I thought I escaped that wahala!"
But here’s the deal:
- After completing JUPEB, you must buy a JAMB Direct Entry (DE) form.
- You’ll go through the registration process at a JAMB-approved center.
- You won’t write the UTME exam, but you’ll upload your JUPEB result and credentials.
- Then you’ll wait for the university you applied to via DE to offer you admission.
- Once that happens, you’ll log into your JAMB CAPS portal and accept the offer, just like UTME candidates.
💡 No DE registration, no official admission – even if your school gives you a provisional offer.
So please, don’t ignore this part. Keep at least ₦5,000–₦8,000 aside for JAMB DE registration when the time comes.
Real Talk - What Nobody Tells You
CRS 003 is EVIL. It's Church History and it's full of dates and names and events that'll make your head spin. I'm not kidding - start preparing for this early if you're doing arts. Get a good textbook, make notes, whatever it takes.
Your SSCE books are your friends. JUPEB is basically secondary school but deeper and harder. Don't throw those books away.
13 points minimum for Law. Anything less and you're probably not getting in. I've seen people with 12 points try and... well, they didn't make it.
Attendance is NOT optional. They want 70% minimum or you're out. No second chances, no "my grandmother died five times" excuses.
Only register through approved centers. There are fake ones out there and they'll take your money and disappear.
Quick Question I Keep Getting
"Is this only for people from that state?"
NO. God, no. I'm not even from Akwa Ibom and I did JUPEB at UNIUYO. Half my class was from other states. It's for all Nigerians.
My Honest Opinion After Going Through It
Look, JUPEB isn't magic. It's still hard work. You still have to study, attend classes, write exams. But if you're the type who hates the JAMB lottery system and you have the money... it's a solid option.
I got into Law with 14 points. Could I have done it through JAMB? Maybe. But I didn't want to find out.
The classes are smaller, lecturers actually know your name, and if you mess up, it's on you - not some computer system or exam body politics.
Just... be realistic about it. If you couldn't handle secondary school properly, JUPEB won't magically fix that. But if you're willing to put in the work? Yeah, it can work for you.
